Hi, I’m Joel Hicks and I’m running to serve you as your Guadalupe County Commissioner for Precinct 4.
I am a third generation Texan, father of two, a United States Air Force Veteran and proud honor graduate of Texas Lutheran University in Seguin.
Over the last decade I have served our community on several boards and commissions, including the City Council.
While I’m technically retired, I retired to public service. My desire to serve in the position of County Commissioner is born from a desire to give back to the people of my community in a deeper, comprehensive way.
For more than 35 years I’ve lived in Guadalupe county. We all have watched as development continues to explode in our area - largely because people recognize the unique character and opportunities that our community has to offer.
The growth is adding traffic and stress on our roads, infrastructure, and other services, and putting a strain on our County budget and taxpayers.
That is why I am stepping up - to protect our tax dollars and our quality of life through these challenging times. Over the last several years I've worked collaboratively to find smart solutions to manage the explosive growth we've seen.
This work helped secure funding for several major road projects in the county, including FM 1103, FM 1518, and Cordova Road from 46 to 123.
I've worked with other representatives to identify shared concerns and work toward legislative and administrative resolutions to our shared challenges.
I've spent the time building relationships with County Officials, TxDOT, and other regional partners to bring Guadalupe County and its concerns to a regional table. These partnerships are key to our success in securing funding, and requires active participation in the process - work I am committed to continue.
I look forward to hearing your concerns and working to improve our community.
